Rugby Football League media placements - applications now open

You could attend some of Rugby League's major events as a media volunteer with the Rugby Football League.

The Rugby Football League is pleased to confirm the opening of new volunteer media opportunities for the 2017/18 academic year.

Media placements are open to applications NOW and will close on Sunday, October 8 at 10pm.

Successful applicants will have the chance to attend Rugby League's major events in 2018 such as the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final, the Betfred Super League Grand Final and the Dacia Magic Weekend.

The media placements are open to any current university student, with no prior experience in Rugby League required.

The placements are flexible to your needs and have proven to be a huge success in recent years, with several graduates of the scheme going on to take up full time work within the journalism industry.

A dedicated mentor will provide regular feedback on your work

"I would recommend this placement to anyone."

Huddersfield University graduate Simon Dent, who spent time on placement with the Rugby Football League between 2013 and 2015 and is now part of the media team at Hull FC, said: "When I began my Sports Journalism degree at the University of Huddersfield, I was told by my tutors to gain as much work experience as I could to improve my chances of getting a job when I finished my degree.

"I applied for the placement with the Rugby Football League as I felt it would provide me with great experience of media work and, being a Rugby League fan, it was great to gain some experience in a sport I enjoy.

"The placement was a great opportunity to see how the media works behind the scenes, having been in the press box for the 2014 Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

"I would recommend this placement to anyone who is considering being a sports journalist or wanting to work in the media," he added.

"The publishing opportunities for your writing are almost endless.

"It is a great step in the right direction and it looks good on your CV when you start applying for jobs after university."

To apply, send a copy of your CV and 150 words on why you would like to join the team to oliver.roby@rfl.co.uk by 10pm on Sunday, October 8.
