Following auditions held in London and Manchester and a public vote, Kathleen Greene is the lucky winner who has been chosen to perform Abide with Me ahead of this year’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final between Hull FC and Wigan Warriors at Wembley Stadium connected by EE on Saturday, August 26.
Over 50 singers auditioned in front of a judging panel that included Sean Ruane from Chant Productions, Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Faryl Smith and Lizzie Jones who sang at the 2015 final.
Kathleen, a 23-year-old singer from London, obtained her BMus in Music Performance from the London College of Music in 2015, where she studied under soprano Sandra Ford. Since her graduation, she has gone on to participate in several operatic productions. As well as singing Abide with Me alongside the London City Voices Choir, Kathleen will also perform the National Anthem on August 26.
On winning the competition, Kathleen, said: “Thank you so much to everyone that voted for me and made this possible – it’s such an honour to have so much support out there.
“I’m nervous but super excited to sing at Wembley Stadium in front of over 70,000 people and cannot thank everyone enough for giving me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“I’ll do my best to make everyone proud and see you all on Saturday, August 26.”
